In the recent
2007 Annual Review by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall
it was announced that the
Household of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall
reduced its carbon emissions
by 9 per cent.

This major success was
achieved through a number of innovative measures, including
the installation of a
carbon neutral heating system at their Gloucestershire home.

Somerset based energy
experts, BJP Consulting Group Ltd were appointed to design
and project manage the
scheme, which included a British made Talbotts boiler. The
boiler has been designed
to utilise a number of renewable fuels including woodchip &
miscanthus and is supplemented
with Viessmann solar panels. The whole of the
installation has an integrated
control system, which was configured by TESA
(Western) Ltd; this includes
energy and carbon metering.

Watertite Heating of Yeovil
undertook the full site installation and coordination of
the Project, bringing
it to a successful conclusion in just 10 weeks

Europanel Saving Money by Going Green
Europanel UK Ltd. Specialises
in the manufacture of MDF and chip board panels
for the shop fitting business.
Its manufacturing site is based at Skelmersdale,
Lancashire and covers
an area of 2,320m². The manufacturing area of the site
was heated by a fossil
fuel powered boiler that was costing around £15,000 a
year in heating bills.
Wanting to replace the existing system with a cheaper,
greener alternative the
company applied for an interest-free loan from the
Carbon Trust to help with
the initial up-front cost of a Talbott TMA 300kW
heater. Europanel UK was
also helped by the West Lancashire Investment
Centre which provided
a grant to assist with the costs as well.

Being a manufacturer of
chip board, the factory produced waste wood which
could be used as fuel
for heating. Therefore, it was proposed that a waste
wood extract system and
a Talbott’s waste wood heater be installed. Not only
would the new system
provide heating but it would improve energy efficiency
by automating the recovery
of waste wood and dust from the factory allowing the
machinery to operate
with an improved productivity rate. Because the wood waste
has no cost, the new system
will save the entire annual energy bill as well as 32
tonnes of carbon emissions
a year. With the annual savings, this translates to a
payback period of 3.9
years.

Paul Rooney, Managing
Director of Europanel UK Ltd., said ‘With the help of an interest-
free loan from the Carbon
Trust, we were able to invest in this fantastic new system which
has helped us minimise
our energy bill and cut our carbon footprint. Our heating bills are
now nil thanks to the
fact we can burn our waste wood and we save on transport costs as
we no longer need to take this waste to landfill. Cost efficiencies
are critical for a business such
